Bremen for young people
There are many places in Bremen that are buzzing with life. The place to see and be seen is the 'Viertel', east of the city centre. It is a melting pot where young people and students rub shoulders with 'natives', families, freaks and folk from all over the world. The many shops selling hip clothes and accessories, music and second-hand gear are joined by numerous bars and cafés. The Ostertor and Steintor quarter (the real name for the 'Viertel') are only a short walk from the city centre.
Every weekend, people in the mood for dancing head to Rembertiring – to the disco mile. Between the station and the city centre, large discos, clubs and bars welcome anyone who wants to party. There are also plenty of opportunities here to grab a bite to eat in the early hours. The Bremen Nightlife website features detailed information on the most popular nightspots.
Perhaps you prefer live acts to music played by a DJ? Bremen has some great venues where international musicians and artists appear. Open-air at the Weser Stadium, concerts at the old shipyard hall 'Pier 2', the ÖVB Arena or the Schlachthof arts centre, as well as any number of live gigs in the bars and pubs – the choice is huge. The entertainment section of this website has more information.
If you enjoy films and like going to the cinema, you'll find Bremen has both arthouse cinemas with an intimate atmosphere and multiplex venues with wide appeal. For more details about what's on, visit Ponton 28, the online entertainment platform for young people in Bremen.
Warm summer evenings are perfect for a stroll along the Schlachte Embankment beneath a leafy canopy of plane trees. You can sit on one of the stone blocks, look out over the river, and soak up the lively atmosphere from the beer gardens. Or you can take a culinary journey to the other side of the world in one of the many restaurants. Party and restaurant ships are moored on the banks of the Weser. And in winter, the Schlachte-Zauber Christmas market creates a wonderfully cosy atmosphere.
