‘Köksch un Qualm’ Housekeeping Museum
In the historical kitchen of a former cigar factory you can watch maids at work and turn back the clock to days gone by.
The Köksch un Qualm museum is housed within an old 19th century cigar factory and gives an insight into the strenuous work involved in keeping an industrialist's household running efficiently in 1907. Dressed in historical costumes, the staff lead you through the working areas of the house. In the kitchen there is old equipment that you can try out, the seamstress will show you the neatly arranged linen cupboard and our busy washer-women demonstrate how the laundry was done before the invention of the electric washing machine. To round it off you can visit the tobacco exhibition that vividly explains the history of tobacco processing in Burgdamm. The house is open every Thursday and freshly brewed coffee and homemade waffles with cream are served in the parlour. Groups can arrange private visits at any time and the museum will gladly put on breakfast or coffee if required.
