15 to 18 June 2017, city centre
Once a year the international La Strada street circus festival provides a forum for acrobats and artistes, dancers and dreamers, mime artists and multi-talented performers. Their often bizarre shows turn the streets and squares of Bremen into one giant open-air stage.
This vibrant summer spectacular is an annual highlight in Bremen's cultural calendar and draws tens of thousands of visitors from all over Europe. True to its title and traditions, the festival is set in the streets for the streets, mainly against the backdrop of the town hall and Roland statue. The entertainment on offer is breathtaking and brash yet full of charm.
Tranquil Wallanlagen Park also doubles as a venue, providing a leafy setting for all the various performances that fall under the street theatre banner, and which you just can't take your eyes off.
In time-honoured tradition, the La Strada festival will also feature a riotous variety gala evening on the Saturday and Sunday to accompany its free daytime programme. This gives the street theatre stars the chance to show what they can do on stage.
