A green vision for the future
Messe Bremen exhibition centre & ÖVB Arena are implementing energy-saving measures
Meetings and conferences with a clear conscience – environmental protection, climate friendliness and sustainability are hot topics for Messe Bremen exhibition centre & ÖVB Arena. A new photovoltaic (PV) system was installed on the roof of hall seven in December 2015, producing an additional 250,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per annum.
The facilities management team at Messe Bremen exhibition centre & ÖVB Arena has delivered eight energy saving initiatives over the past six years alone. Aside from the PV system for hall seven, an even larger system was installed on the roofs of halls four to six in 2011. With an output of 600 kWp it generates around 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per annum. The two PV systems cover around 25 per cent of our energy needs. But that's not all: a combined heat and power (CHP) unit was added to reduce our carbon footprint, and in 2011 we switched to 100 per cent green electricity. In 2015 halls four to six, the Bremen Conference Centre and all office spaces were fitted with energy-saving LED lighting.
Environmental protection and sustainability are equally important within our company. A sustainability initiative and a 'green team' made up of trainees organise the annual climate protection days, a mix of workshops, lectures and information stands on topics such as 'saving energy' and 'sustainable diet'. The activities are aimed at the workforce and are intended to raise environmental awareness in each employee.
Messe Bremen exhibition centre & ÖVB Arena have officially been a 'climate friend' since 2012. This is an initiative of Bremen-based climate protection agency Energiekonsens which aims to achieve a lasting reduction of each individual's carbon emissions. All 'climate friends' have made a clear, voluntary undertaking to take specific climate protection measures.
