The German Fairytale Route
The route starts in Hanau, the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm. It covers 600 kilometres, passing through idyllic countryside, enchanting towns and villages and fabled sites associated with German fairytales. The best is saved for last with the popular tourist trail ending at the Town Musicians in Bremen.
Since 1975, the route has connected fairytales, myths and legends and places where the Brothers Grimm lived. There are plenty of plays, museums and festivals to enjoy along the way and even a fairytale-themed exercise trail – the Grimm-dich-Pfad – featuring characters and settings from the classic Grimm stories.
More than 60 towns, villages and districts work together to ensure that visitors of all ages enjoy a journey of magic and discovery on the German Fairytale Route.
