The Hole of Bremen (Bremer Loch)
Every now and again, a tourist on the market square – one of the oldest parts of Bremen – gets startled by animal noises that appear to come from the ground. But don't worry, we haven't locked up the Town Musicians in some underground chamber! The sounds come from the Hole of Bremen (Bremer Loch), a collection box that is set into the pavement. The animal noise is a way of thanking you for each coin you throw in. The Hole of Bremen is located at the bottom of the steps outside the State Parliament building, close to the small souvenir shop.
Proceeds go to the Wilhelm Kaisen Bürgerhilfe charity which supports selected organisations such as the workers' welfare association and the German Red Cross.
