The Town Musicians outside Bremen
In the Bremen dialect, a Butenbremer is a person who originally comes from Bremen but now lives elsewhere. And there are lots of Butenbremer Town Musicians in Germany and around the world.
Although the four animals set off in search of new fortunes in Bremen as town musicians, they never actually reach their destination. Instead, they find happiness in a secluded cottage in the woods, where they spend many contented years and all is well with the world. Word soon got around that they had bravely stood up to a band of robbers and they became famous as the Bremen Town Musicians – despite the fact that they never became musicians. Bremen, of course, has many statues and portrayals of the four friends – but who would have thought that there would be so many in Japan? Or in southern Africa?
In the picture gallery you find a selection of Town Musician portrayals in Germany and around the world.
