The Gerhard Marcks house in Bremen is the museum for modern and contemporary sculpture. It belongs to the sculptor's museums approved internationally and nationwide. There are shown in special exhibitions not only classics like moors, Maillol or Giacometti, but also younger artists who prove that sculpture is a living medium.
In the Gerhard Marcks house a museum draught which consciously combines modern and traditional art with each other has developed in nearly 40 years. One of the most important German sculptors of the 20th century laid the foundation-stone for it in 1969: Gerhard Marcks (1889-1981). The endowment be preserved life work. No less than 400 sculptures, more than 14,000 hand drawings and more than 1,200 sheets of pressure graphics.
