A varied programme of top-notch music
March 2012. The 23rd Bremen Music Festival from 1 to 22 September is a wonderful opportunity to discover what's happening in international classical music. On the programme are 35 concerts in Bremen, Bremerhaven and throughout the north-west of Germany, featuring big-name performers as well as newcomers whose performances might well be a revelation. It's a glorious spectrum of popular programmes and thrilling rarities.
The opening evening on 1 September centres on the beautifully illuminated market square and the town hall, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It promises to be an atmospheric appetiser with no fewer than 24 concerts in 3 time bands and 8 venues. From 2 to 9 September the 3rd Arp Schnitger Festival takes place under the Bremen Music Festival banner and celebrates the work of this important baroque organ builder from the Wesermarsch area.
Another new feature this year is the Musikfest Surprise series at the BLG-Forum in the Überseestadt from 11 to 14 September, whose programme of repertoire, ensembles and presentation styles is a bit different and very refreshing.
