Schwankhalle arts centre
Performing arts centre with a national reputation: dance, theatre, performance, concerts, comedy, readings, children's and youth theatre.
Schwankhalle Bremen is a production and performance venue for the independent performing arts. Housed in a building on the premises of the former Remmer brewery in Bremen’s Neustadt district, the Schwankhalle first opened in 2003, and was used and operated by a range of individuals and associations from the Bremen arts scene until the summer of 2015. Since it’s relaunch under new management in September 2015, the Schwankhalle has served as a laboratory and workshop for local, national and international projects and collaborations. The new concept is based on the ideas and traditions of an artists’ house, offering artists time, space and support for transdisciplinary and autonomous research, education and development in an inspirational environment.
The Schwankhalle has two fully equipped theatre auditoriums, one with 120 and one with 80 seats, a radio studio, rehearsal stages and guest apartments. It is operated by the Neugier e.V. association, which also organises the events and which since 2012 has received funding from Bremen’s Senator for Culture.
